Ancient Spiritual Practices:
Study of Scripture Via Lectio Divina

LECTIO.
What is a Lectio Divina?
This is an ancient way of reading scripture. It
is a very slow and reflective way to let scripture sink into your
soul.
How do I do it?
You will read the passage four times. After
each reading you will sit in silence (for as long as it takes)
and reflect on the passage in a particular way.
- Get yourself comfortable. Begin
to slow your mind.
- Pray that God would bring to mind whatever you need to hear
from this passage.
- Read the passage.
Then sit in silence, just focusing on
what the passage said. Patiently
push away distractions.
Then see if a word or phrase sticks with
you. Write down
that word/phrase.
See if the passage touches you in any
way…emotionally,
physically, intellectually, etc. Jot down your thoughts.
See if there is an invitation for your
life. Jot down that
invitation.
- End talking with God about your experience.
