Ancient Spiritual Practices:
Reading with the Imagination

prayer form

What is this?

A guy name Ignatius of Loyola developed several spiritual exercises that were used centuries ago.  Reading with the Imagination is an offshoot of one of his exercises.  You will be reading a portion of scripture trying to imagine yourself in that particular situation.

How do I do this?

You will read a passage of scripture multiple times.  Each time you will be trying to utilize all your senses to see what is going on, to smell the odors present, to feel certain things around you, to hear the voices and sounds present, maybe even to taste what is being offered.  Your imagination will help with this reading.  Once you are done, jot down what came to mind during the experience.
